About Giant Sequoia Forest Trail
Giant sequoias grow in groves within the mixed conifer forests of California’s Sierra Nevada. They share those forests with other tree species, but their huge trunks make them stand out. This page places a trail between several sequoias and uses smaller trees to show scale. The tall trunks create long vertical shapes for coloring.

Ideas for coloring this scene
Layer warm red-brown, cinnamon, and a little violet along the bark. Follow the vertical grooves instead of filling each trunk with one flat color. Keep the trail light and use cooler greens behind the giant trees to make their warm trunks stand forward.
