About Everglades Alligator and Sawgrass
American alligators live in the freshwater marshes and other waterways of the Everglades. During dry periods, the water retained in alligator holes can also shelter other wildlife. This scene pairs an alligator’s broad snout and armored back with a flat wetland landscape. Sawgrass and open water give the page a different rhythm from the mountain scenes in the pack.

Ideas for coloring this scene
Try olive, gray-brown, or deep green for the alligator, leaving the underside lighter. Use yellow-green grasses against muted blue water. Give the larger back scales slightly different shades, and keep the distant marsh soft so the animal remains easy to see.
