About Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse

Bass Harbor Head Light stands above a rocky shoreline on the southwestern side of Mount Desert Island. Built in 1858, the light marks the entrance to Bass Harbor and Blue Hill Bay. Its compact tower and nearby buildings sit among coastal trees, with the water below. The contrast between built shapes and rough shoreline makes this a distinctive Acadia scene.

Ideas for coloring this scene

Keep the lighthouse pale and give the lantern a dark accent. Try pink-gray granite, deep green trees, and blue-green water. Leave narrow white spaces on the waves for foam, and use different shades on adjoining rocks to separate their faces.
